Thinking Outside of the Box
The Kanawha Valley Academy of Learning Pod was born from the desire to free our children from the “box” of public school. Children are unique and traditional study is not a fit for everyone.
"The reality is that conventional teaching and learning methods follow an assembly-line pattern which allows little room for deviation. Educators deliver a predefined curriculum based on the gradual mastery of specific academic and developmental milestones. The student demonstrates mastery of knowledge and skills by completing cumulative and summative assessments. These are often standardised. Thus, learner progress is often reduced to, and defined by assessment results."-- Estelle Borrey
We created an option that combined the best of public school and the best of homeschool to nurture creativity, intelligence, and kindness.
Let's take Albert Einstein as an example. He is one of our greatest scientific minds. His teachers told him he would never amount to anything. He began learning on his own studying calculus and physics. He did not fit into the box.
"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." -Albert Einstein
Our founder, Kacey, states, "My aunt once told me 'that you shouldn't complain about situations unless you are willing to do something about it." Kacey said that has stuck with her.
Kacey was upset over an experience her child was a part of and Kanawha Valley Academy was born.
It's designed to be an exciting place of development that offers a student a family centered environment. A small setting and individualized attention that fosters a love of learning. A child that is eager to learn is the best start to a high quality education.
We have a compassionate instructor and a knowledgable homeschool staff with specialization in programming, communication, and community based instruction. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the youth in our community. It will help with academic performance as well as social emotional well-being of the students.
